Size Scanner Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 23, 2026

Size Scanner ("the app") is a desktop app from EERIE that finds the largest files and folders on your computer. The app has no accounts, no sign-in, and no servers of ours. Scanning happens entirely on your own device.

What we collect

Nothing. Size Scanner has no user accounts, no analytics, no telemetry, and no advertising. We never see your files, your file names, or anything else about your computer.

What the app reads

To list the largest items, the app reads the names, sizes and last-modified dates of files and folders in the locations you choose to scan. It does not open or read the contents of your files. Nothing from a scan is saved by the app; results exist only while the app is open and disappear when you close it or start a new scan.

Where your settings are stored

Your settings are saved in the app's own storage folder on your computer: the light or dark theme, the AI panel's open or closed state, and, if you use the optional AI feature, your chosen AI provider, model, API key and the last question you asked. They never leave your device except as described under "Optional AI analysis" below.

Deleting files

When you delete a selected item, the app moves it to the Recycle Bin (Trash on macOS) using the operating system's own mechanism, so you can restore it yourself. Nothing is uploaded, copied elsewhere, or reported anywhere.

Optional AI analysis

Size Scanner includes an optional AI feature that is switched off until you set it up yourself. It is a "bring your own key" feature: you choose the AI provider and paste your own API key from that provider. EERIE does not operate an AI service, does not supply a key, and receives nothing from these requests.

When, and only when, you press "Ask AI", the app sends the following directly from your computer to the provider you selected: the question shown in the dialog (which you can edit before sending), and the list of results currently on screen, meaning each item's full path and size. Any follow-up message you type in the AI panel is sent to the same provider along with the earlier messages of that conversation.

Full file paths can contain personal details such as your Windows or macOS account name, project names and document names. Review the list, and edit or narrow your scan, before sending it if that matters to you.

The supported providers are Anthropic, OpenAI, Google Gemini, DeepSeek, and any other service you point the app at through the OpenAI-compatible option. Once your data reaches a provider it is handled under that provider's own privacy policy and terms, not this one. The app sends nothing to any AI provider until you have entered a key and pressed the button, and it never sends anything to EERIE.

Your API key is stored locally on your device so you do not have to paste it every time. It is sent only to the provider it belongs to, as part of the request. You can remove it at any time by clearing the field in the AI settings.

Network use

Apart from the optional AI feature above, the app works offline. Links inside the app, such as "Support This Project", "Report Issue", "Discussions" and "Feature Request", open in your web browser only when you click them, taking you to third-party websites that operate under their own privacy policies.

Exports

Exporting writes a CSV or TXT file of the results to a location you choose. That file stays on your device and under your control. The app never uploads it.

Third parties

Size Scanner contains no third-party trackers, advertising SDKs, or analytics libraries. The only third party that ever receives data is the AI provider you choose yourself, and only for the requests described above.

Third-party distribution

If the app is obtained through the Microsoft Store, Apple App Store, or another platform, that platform may process data related to download, purchase, and licensing under its own policy. This policy describes only what the Size Scanner app itself does.

Children's privacy

Size Scanner does not collect personal information from anyone, including children.
