<h1>Lock Finder Privacy Policy</h1>

<p>Lock Finder ("the app") is a desktop app from EERIE that shows you which programs are holding a file or folder open, so you can rename, move or delete it. The app has no accounts, no sign-in, and no servers of ours. Everything it does happens on your own device.</p>

<h2>What we collect</h2>
<p>Nothing. Lock Finder has no user accounts, no analytics, no telemetry, and no advertising. We never see your files, your file names, the programs you run, or anything else about your computer.</p>

<h2>What the app reads</h2>
<p>To answer the question "what is holding this open", the app looks at three things on your computer while a check is running: the list of files and folders currently open by programs on the machine, the name and program file of each of those programs, and the titles of open windows so it can also tell you which programs merely have your file on screen without locking it. It does not open or read the contents of your files.</p>
<p>All of this is read fresh each time you run a check and is shown only in the app's window. Nothing from a check is written to disk, uploaded, or kept after you close the app or start another check.</p>

<h2>Closing a program</h2>
<p>When you press "Close it" on a result, the app asks Windows to end that program, using the operating system's own mechanism. Anything unsaved in that program is lost, which is why the app asks you to confirm first. Nothing about the program is recorded or reported anywhere.</p>

<h2>Administrator rights</h2>
<p>Some programs, such as Windows services and programs belonging to other user accounts, cannot be inspected without administrator rights. The app never asks for them on its own: it runs normally until you choose "Run as administrator", at which point Windows shows you its own permission prompt. If you grant it, a second hidden copy of Lock Finder holds those rights and does the checking, and it closes when you close the app. The rights are used only to read the same information described above, and to close a program when you ask.</p>

<h2>The File Explorer right-click entry</h2>
<p>Lock Finder adds an entry to the Windows right-click menu for files and folders. Choosing it opens the app with the item you clicked. The path of that item is passed to the app on your computer and goes nowhere else. Windows adds and removes this entry itself when the app is installed and uninstalled.</p>

<h2>Where your settings are stored</h2>
<p>Your settings are saved on your own computer: the light or dark theme, and the size and position of the window so it opens the way you left it. They never leave your device.</p>

<h2>Network use</h2>
<p>Lock Finder works fully offline and does not send your data anywhere. It makes no network requests of any kind while it runs, and the fonts it uses are included inside the app rather than fetched from the internet. Links inside the app, such as "Support This Project", "Report Issue", "Discussions" and "Feature Request", open in your web browser only when you click them, taking you to third-party websites that operate under their own privacy policies.</p>

<h2>Third parties</h2>
<p>Lock Finder contains no third-party trackers, advertising SDKs, or analytics libraries. It shares data with no one, because it collects none.</p>

<h2>Third-party distribution</h2>
<p>If the app is obtained through the Microsoft Store or another platform, that platform may process data related to download, purchase, and licensing under its own policy. This policy describes only what the Lock Finder app itself does.</p>

<h2>Children's privacy</h2>
<p>Lock Finder does not collect personal information from anyone, including children.</p>

<h2>Changes to this policy</h2>
<p>If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this URL with a new "Last updated" date.</p>
