Climbwise ("the app") is an app from EERIE for iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch and Android that measures cycling rides by effort, which is the distance ridden plus the height climbed, and sets a target that grows week by week. Everything the app records is kept on your own device.
From the iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch app, nothing. From the Android app, one small record used only for the free trial: a scrambled identifier for your phone and the date and time the trial was started on it (see "Free trial and unlocking the app" below). Climbwise has no accounts, no sign-in, no analytics, no telemetry and no tracking. We never receive your rides, your location, your heart rate or any health data.
Your rides, your plan, your daily targets and your settings are stored in the app's own storage on your device. They are not uploaded anywhere and they are not backed up to any server of ours. Deleting the app deletes them.
On iPhone and iPad, Climbwise asks for permission to read your cycling workouts, heart rate, cycling distance and active energy from Apple Health, so that rides you recorded with the Apple Watch's own workout or another app appear in your history with their effort. The Apple Watch app asks for permission to save each ride it records to Apple Health, with its route, heart rate, distance and energy. You choose what to allow in the permission screen, and you can change it at any time in the Health app or in Settings.
Data read from Apple Health is used only inside the app on your device to show your rides, their climb profile and their effort. It is never sent to us or to anyone else, never used for advertising or marketing, never sold, and never stored in iCloud by the app.
While a ride is being recorded, the app uses your device's location to measure the distance ridden and the route, and the barometer, where the device has one, to measure the height climbed. On Apple Watch these readings are taken by the watch. Location is used only while you are recording a ride. The route and heights are kept with the ride on your device and in Apple Health when you allow it, and are never sent to us.
When you start a ride from the iPhone, the iPhone sends the watch your effort target for the day, and while the ride runs the watch sends the iPhone the ride's figures so you can follow them on both. This happens directly between your own devices through Apple's watch connection. Nothing passes through any server of ours.
Climbwise offers a free trial and then a one-time purchase for permanent access.
On iPhone and iPad the trial and the purchase are handled by the App Store. The app asks the App Store whether you have started the trial or bought the unlock. We do not receive your name, your payment details or your Apple ID.
On Android the purchase is handled by Google Play. The app asks Google Play whether you have bought the unlock. We do not receive your name, your payment details or your Google account details. So that the trial cannot be restarted by reinstalling the app, the date the trial started is kept on a server we run on Cloudflare. It is stored next to a scrambled identifier for your phone: a one-way hash made on the phone from the identifier Android gives this app on that device (the Android ID). The Android ID itself never leaves your phone, and the hash cannot be turned back into it. The record holds no name, email address, Google account, ride or anything else about you, and it is used for nothing except the trial. Cloudflare, which runs the server, handles the connection under its own privacy policy.
The iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch app works fully offline and does not connect to any server of ours. It talks to the App Store for the trial and the purchase. The Android app opens a connection only to check the trial and the purchase: to Google Play, and to our server for the trial's start date. In both, links in Settings, such as Report Issue or Feature Request, open in your web browser only when you tap them, under that site's own privacy policy.
Apart from the Android trial record described above, the app collects no analytics, no telemetry, no usage data and no device information. It contains no third-party trackers, advertising components or analytics libraries. We do not sell or share your data with anyone, and we do not use it to build a profile of you.
Climbwise is a fitness app. Its effort figure and weekly plan are general guides for exercise and are not medical advice. Talk to a doctor before starting a new exercise programme if you have any health concerns.
Climbwise does not ask for or collect personal information from anyone, including children. The Android trial record holds no name, contact details or account.
If the app is obtained through the Apple App Store, Google Play, or another platform, the respective platform may process data related to download, purchase, and licensing under their own policies. This policy describes only processing performed by the Climbwise app itself.
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this URL with a new "Last updated" date.
