Bear in Mind ("the app") is an app from EERIE for keeping a list of the things you are afraid of forgetting. It comes as a desktop app, an Android app and a browser extension. This policy covers all three. Everything you write is kept on your own computer or phone, in whichever of them you are using.
From the desktop app and the browser extension, nothing. From the Android app, one small record used only for the free trial: a scrambled identifier for your phone and the date and time the trial was started on it (see "Free trial and unlocking the app" below). Bear in Mind has no accounts, no sign-in, no analytics, no telemetry and no tracking. We never receive anything you write in the app.
The things you add, their descriptions, whether each one is ticked off, and your settings are saved on your own device. In the desktop app and the Android app they are two plain files in the app's own storage. In the browser extension they are kept in the browser's own storage for that extension, which stays on your machine and is not shared with any web page you visit. Nothing you write is uploaded to us or to anyone else, and we have no way to reach it.
On Android, if your phone's own backup is turned on, Android may include the app's files in your Google backup so they can come back on a new phone. That backup is made by Android and kept by Google under Google's privacy policy; the app does not send it anywhere itself.
The desktop app, the Android app and the extension keep separate lists. A list kept in one does not appear in the others. Moving one to another is done by exporting from one and importing into the other.
Export writes a copy of your list to a file: the desktop app and the Android app ask you where to put it, and the extension saves it to your downloads. Import reads a file you pick and adds what is in it to your list. Both files stay on your device and under your control. The app never uploads them.
The Android app offers a 15-day free trial and then a one-time purchase for permanent access. The purchase is handled by Google Play. The app asks Google Play whether you have bought the unlock. We do not receive your name, your payment details or your Google account details, and no purchase information is sent to any server of ours.
So that the trial cannot be restarted by reinstalling the app, the date the trial started is kept on a server we run on Cloudflare. It is stored next to a scrambled identifier for your phone: a one-way hash made on the phone from the identifier Android gives this app on that device (the Android ID). The Android ID itself never leaves your phone, and the hash cannot be turned back into it. The record holds no name, email address, Google account or anything you have written, and it is used for nothing except the trial. Cloudflare, which runs the server, handles the connection under its own privacy policy.
We keep this record so the trial is not given twice on the same phone. Because it holds nothing that identifies you, we have no way to tell from a request which record belongs to whom.
The desktop app is sold through the Microsoft Store and has no trial or in-app purchase. The browser extension has neither.
Under the app's name the desktop app and the Android app show how much processor time and memory the app is using, and how much space its own files take up. The browser extension shows only how much room its stored list takes up, because a browser gives an extension no way to measure processor or memory use. These figures are measured on your device, shown on screen, and never sent anywhere. They can be switched off in the settings.
The desktop app and the extension work fully offline and never contact anything on their own. The extension reads no web page, asks for no access to any site, and runs nothing that is not inside its own package.
The Android app works offline too. It opens a connection only to check the trial and the purchase: to Google Play, and to our server for the trial's start date. It does this when it opens, when you come back to it, and from time to time while you use it, and when you start the trial, buy, or restore a purchase.
In all three, a connection is also opened when you tap or click one of the links in the app, which opens that page in your browser under that site's own privacy policy.
Apart from the trial record described above, the app collects no analytics, no telemetry, no usage data and no device information. It contains no third-party trackers, advertising components or analytics libraries. We do not sell or share your data with anyone, and we do not use it to build a profile of you.
In the Android app, Google Play handles the purchase and Cloudflare runs the server that keeps the trial record, each under its own privacy policy. Bear in Mind shares nothing else with anyone.
Bear in Mind does not ask for or collect personal information from anyone, including children. The Android trial record holds no name, contact details or account.
If the app is obtained through the Microsoft Store, Google Play, the Chrome Web Store or another platform, that platform may process data related to download, install, purchase and licensing under its own policies. This policy describes only what Bear in Mind itself does.
